Zags keep Goodson to transfer, pursue football

Gonzague from playmaker Demetri Goodson has decided to transfer to play football, the school announced Tuesday.

The 6-foot, 175 pounds junior would have two years of football eligibility remaining, according to Gonzaga, that offers no football. Goodson is the brother of Carolina Panthers running back Mike Goodson, who played at Texas A & M.

"I decided to pursue football next year," Goodson said in a statement. "I want to thank my coaches and personnel for the opportunity to play here." I would also like to thank the city of Spokane and all Zags fans who have supported me over the years. "It has been an extraordinary experience."

Goodson was 35 games as a junior, averaging 5.2 points and 2.6 assists to help the Zags 11th consecutive West Coast Conference title. His spot may be filled by freshman David Stockton, the former foot who is the son of Hall of Famer John Stockton. The Zags also have incoming freshman Kevin Pangos of the Canada.

"He wants to finish his NCAA eligibility, play football," Gonzaga coach Mark Few said Goodson, in a statement. "After having convinced us he completed his degree while we were all in support of its decision." It was a great teammate and I have great respect for his tenacity and it has always played and practiced hard. ?
