Transgender player leaves the GW women's team

WASHINGTON - The openly transgender member of George Washington, said women's basketball team whose innovative season was shortened by a pair of concussions, he is jouerai in his senior year.


The school announced that Kye Allums "decided that it is in its interest no longer participate in intercollegiate athletics."

Allums "I only came to this conclusion", said in a statement published by the University, and I thank the athletic department for respecting my wishes. ?


The statement offered more details, although GW said that allums enrolled in classes for the fall semester. Allums not immediately responded to a request by email for an interview Wednesday.


Allums made international headlines when he announced before the start of the season in November that he preferred to be known as a man. He said it was to the coast of hormonal treatment and sex reassignment surgery so that he could continue to play in the women's team.
