Hall of Famer Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, who won five championships in the world as a Los Angeles Laker and remains the leading NBA scorer, believes that the franchise owes a statue outside Staples Center and feels "despised" that he already took place.

Michael Stewart/Getty ImagesWith a statue of his likeness still grace outside Staples, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, said "it is either an oversight" or the Lakers are "taking me for granted."

There are five statues outside the arena Magic Johnson, Jerry West, Chick Hearn, Wayne Gretzky and Oscar De La Hoya. Abdul-Jabbar believes that it is high time for the Lakers do the right thing and make him the sixth athlete so honored.

"I don't understand (it)." This is an oversight or they take me to acquired for, "Abdul-Jabbar told The Sporting News in a recent interview." "I will not try to read the minds of the people, but it does make me happy." This is certainly a slight. I feel contempt. ?

The NBA MVP six times sounds even more offended in a statement issued later by his Director of affairs.

"I am very offended by the total absence of acknowledgement of receipt of my contribution to the success of Laker," Abdul-Jabbar was quoted saying. "I guess that is the hub for five championships of the world is not considered quite large in terms of part of the history of Laker."

Abdul-Jabbar won six NBA titles in all and was part of three NCAA Championship teams during his reign of magnitude at UCLA. His achievements also include the selection of an NBA All-Star of record 19 teams (he played in 18).

Abdul-Jabbar tweeted Wednesday: "Magic expected 8 years to be honored in this way." Perhaps then I am chopped liver? ?

Lakers spokesman John Black told The Sporting News that Abdul-Jabbar is next in line to get a statue outside Staples Center.

"We've been to Staples Center 11 years and have two ex-joueurs (Johnson and West) statues have now," Black said, according to TSN. "" "". It is not as we do each year. We have no timetable. Each time we do the next statue of the third player in Los Angeles Lakers, it will (be) Kareem - and he said that.

"Once more, did us when that would be." It may be next year, the next year or several years from now. ?

But Abdul-Jabbar is unclear on this subject.

"Rumours that I will make a statue," he tweeted Wednesday. "A warning to all my fans - don't hold your breath." "Lakers Don't care about me".

Several weeks ago the Boston Celtics announced that the Hall of the Centre of Fame Bill Russell will be honored with a statue in the city of Boston - more than 40 years after the end of his career for the Celtics.
