THE police chief confident in Stow flying arrest

LOS ANGELES - Los Angeles police chief Thursday expressed confidence that its investigators have arrested the right person as the main suspect in the brutal beating of a fan of the Giants in San Francisco at Dodger Stadium, but he said that a case is presented to prosecutors until there is an "abundance" of the evidence.


The arrest of Giovanni Ramirez, 31, came weeks after beatings, and almost a week has passed with no charges filed.


Police Chief Charlie Beck told a press conference that he "absolutely" believes he has the right person.

Bryan Stow, 42, wore clothing giant for the season opening game between San Francisco and Los Angeles and was beaten into a coma in an attack in the parking lot of Dodger Stadium after the match. Police said that Stow was attacked by two men who fled in a car driven by a woman.


Police are still looking for the woman and the second attacker.


The beating shocked Los Angeles and has triggered a wave of victim assistance and donations to a reward Fund. He also raised a campaign billboard showing sketches of the two assailants. The Ministry of police has launched a major security beef-up to the games of the Dodgers.


Beck said police would go to the Office of the district attorney until they provide the "best" case


He said a range of identification Wednesday is is well spent and "added to our group of evidence".


"Giovanni Ramirez is and was and has been our main suspect on beating stowage", the police chief said. Ramirez was arrested at his home in Hollywood Sunday after a tip from his parole officer.

Stow, an ambulance driver and father of two, was a swimsuit orange Giants when he was taunted, thrown to the ground and kicked after the match on March 31. He recently was moved to a hospital in Los Angeles in the San Francisco area, where he was hospitalized in a critical but stable condition under sedation heavy to prevent the crises caused by brain injury.


Stow family sued the owner of the Dodgers in Los Angeles Frank McCourt, arguing that the Dodgers have shown negligence in providing more security and do not have adequate lighting in the parking lot where the incident occurred. Attorney Dodgers Jerome M. Jackson said the Organization was faithful to his support to investigators and Stow, but would defend themselves against the allegations.
