Kevin McHale will join a long list of accompanied by interview for the position of coach of the Houston Rockets, Yahoo! Sports reported Thursday.
A Hall of Famer as player, McHale coached the Minnesota Timberwolves in 2005 and 2008-2009. He was also General Manager of the team.
Former rockets guard Sam Cassell, and former coach of the Oklahoma and Indiana Kelvin Sampson, will also be an interview, KRIV-TV in Houston reported Tuesday.
The Rockets requested permission to interview assistant coach of the Mavericks Dwane Casey, sources close to Marc Stein of ESPN.com told last Thursday.
The Houston Chronicle reported in editions of Thursday that the Rockets have established contact with the other two high - profile available coaches - Mike Woodson and former coach/current riders Mike Brown NBA ESPN analyst - already and have interviews scheduled week next with former assistant Mavericks Mario Elie (now with Sacramento) and assistant rockets current Jack Sikma.
Sources told ESPN.com that the Rockets are rushing their research, however, to allow the possibility that the currently available candidates - such as Stan Van Gundy of Orlando - could suddenly hit the market as Adelman, depending on what happens in the playoffs.
Other assistants whose teams are still in the playoffs, as Lawrence Frank of Boston and Mike Budenholzer de San Antonio, should also take the interests of Rockets.
The Chronicle reports that Houston also has long-standing interest Deputy Lakers Brian Shaw if Shaw is not chosen by Los Angeles to replace outgoing Phil Jackson.
The Rockets announced on 18 April that that they had "mutually agreed to part ways" with Rick Adelman, whose contract expires in June.
