Bubba Watson, Matt Jones share Zurich Classic lead

Bubba Watson between the Zurich classic as a favour to his mother.

"My mother really wanted me to come," said Watson, bound for the first round lead with Matt Jones after opening with a 6-under 66 Thursday. "My mother always comes at this golf tournament, when my mom said that it wants to come, I'm here." (And somehow, I shot 6 under today.) ?

Watson, the winner of Torrey Pines late January, two row of 32 feet for eagle on 11 by-5 and had six birdies and two bogies at TPC Louisiana - from his favourite course.

"The way the course is, it just fits my eye," has said Watson. "It's a great golf course, a great distribution." For me, it is simply not that I want to play every day.

"Today, it just worked." I hit my driver really well. "I was struck it well all year, but I made some rolls and hit some good iron shots and a certain way is out 6 as".

Jones is made 57 feet for a birdie on his final hole.

"I initiated it perfectly," said Jones. "He grabbed a little and only follow in beautifully.".

Jones had eight birdies and two bogies. Playing the back nine first, the Australian put off the coast of four consecutive birdies starting at the 16th by-4. He followed with a 30-foot birdie putt 17, a foot of page 11 of the 18th century and a putt of 20 feet on the first.

Jones and to put in a lot of work this week with swing coach Gary Barter.

"My hands are quite poorly, in fact, after all the work we have done," said Jones. "So it's coming slowly." Today we have seen some positive results of what we've done. ?

Watson and Jones played in the afternoon marking better conditions after a morning of wind has been very North play more difficult.

"The guys implemented well enough with the conditions which had us over there with the wind and everything," said Jones. "The Greens are perfect." And I played well. ... I actually made much today and in the latter end of the tour, chipped stone rolls which is good. ?

Joe Durant, Tommy Gainey, Carl Pettersson, John Rollins, Nick O'Hern and David Duval opened with 67s. During a played in the morning.

"I think that I stayed very patient," said during the week at Hilton Head last sixth. "Some of the pins were in some difficult places so that you had to shoot from a distance of them." I played here enough to know what he will do with winds of different. ?

Gainey was week last third.

"I believe that the momentum of last week is definitely with me," he said.

Luke Donald, losing playoffs in an unsuccessful attempt to move from No. 3 No. 1 in the world, last week at Hilton Head shot a 68 to match Matt Bettencourt, Webb Simpson, Jason Dufner, Charles Howell and winner 2002 K.J. Choi. Winner of Hilton Head Brandt Snedeker opened with a 77. He had a triple bogey on the ninth by-3 when he hit his tee ball in the water.

Rickie Fowler and Steve Stricker shot of the 1970s, champion of the US Open Graeme McDowell had a 73 and Vijay Singh opened with a 74. Singh, criticism of the Pete Dye-designed layout, had a double bogey on the 18th hole.

John Daly struggled to a 9-over 81. Daly was 2 on 14 holes, then played his last four in 7 on. He had a triple bogey on 16 by-4 after hitting two shots into the water.
