Rory Sabbatini could face suspension of the PGA Tour for what has been described as an argument of profanity with Sean O'Hair in Zurich classic week last in New Orleans.
According to several players and officials, it was the second time this year that Sabbatini has run into difficulties because of his behavior on the golf course. The first incident was at Riviera in the North of the Open Trust, where Sabbatini have spoken harshly to a volunteer among teenagers who tried to help him find a stray bullet.
The players and officials spoke on condition of anonymity because the canned tour all disciplinary matters private.
O'Hair was also in the Group of Sabbatini at the C?te d'Azur. Two people familiar with the incident said the volunteer wrote a letter to five pages for the PGA Tour, but barely escaped Sabbatini by proposing to apologize to anyone he offensé.
Sabbatini won two weeks later at the Honda Classic.
Stewart Cink also plays in the group with O'Hair and Sabbatini at the C?te d'Azur.
"It was raining." It was hard. We were all stressed trying to take the Cup and I think that we could have back, "Cink said Wednesday. "There were many factors." And then the incident happened. ?
Cink did not go into the details and said that it was "an another player in my group," without mentioning Sabbatini by name.
"It was embarrassing for me as a golfer," said Cink. "He apologized directly for me.". I hope he meant that he and he settled. ?
Two people with direct knowledge of the incident of the C?te d'Azur, said that the teenager had placed a plastic bottle empty on foot high grass to the right of the fifth green where he thought that Sabbatini hit his ball. Sabbatini is supposed to have criticized young people who affect his balloon, although it turned the ball was not his. The grass was so dense that three other bullets were found, no belonging to Sabbatini.
PGA Tour Ty Votaw spokesman, said in an e-mail that the tower was aware of what happened in New Orleans, and that he had responded to the question of the C?te d'Azur.
"We discuss disciplinary matters," said Votaw.
Two officials said Sabbatini has not been suspended and that he has 14 days to appeal from any discipline. He plays in the Wells Fargo championship this week and is expected to play the week next to The Players Championship.
Another official said a 30-day suspension would be typical in this case, although he did not know how it would be resolved.
Asked by journalists for comments, Sabbatini said, "commentary on what?" These crazy rumors going towards? Well, I play this week, so I wouldn't worry about it too, guys OK? ?
A requested if the tour is going to suspend him, he replied: "you're going to based on rumours." How long must I tell you? ?
O'Hair, who missed his last five cuts on tour, withdrew from the competition Monday. Recently, he fired his second cart in four months and split with swing coach Sean Foley earlier in the week. He could not immediately be reached for comment.
It was not clear what triggered the argument between Sabbatini and O'Hair to the hole at the TPC Louisiana 14th last week. Both players missed the cut. Pat Perez was the third player in the Group and contacted Tuesday night by the Associated Press, he said, "I can't really say anything." The Tower has asked me not to talk about it. ?
