Romo shoots 81 at the end of 2011 US Open dream

Submission of Tony Romo of the US Open is waiting for another year.

The Dallas Cowboys quaterback shot a 9-over 81 to the qualifier local to Stonebridge Ranch Country Club in McKinney, Texas, Monday, leaving him off the coast of the list of players to advance to the next step.

The best 10 golfers spend in sectional qualifying at Dallas Athletic Club next month. The US Open is 16-19 June at the Congressional Country Club in Bethesda, MD.

In conditions extremely windy Romo made bogies on our 1, 2, 5, 11 and 18 with a double bogey on no. 8 and triple bogey on no. 15 after shot tee off limits.

His lone birdie came on the front nine at the seventh hole by-5.

"Golf is probably the most severe in the region, but when you add the USGA with their green and some of the investments of PIN, and then add this wind, it is now a monster" Romo said. "It was also difficult that I saw it here.".

Romo and 40 other players began their first full-team training the shoulder last week, and they should continue this week.

Cowboys coach Jason Garrett does not have a problem with his QB, playing competitive golf.

"I know because I've been around the NFL, players like to play golf and they like to play golf at the shoulder," Garrett said Monday on "Live talk about Pro Football." "It is really a way for them to type away what they do with the installation, training or practice, that they have participated." Thus, it has always been a relief for a lot of guys in many different positions.

"Tony precisely to be very good at it." It gets much attention to it, but we probably have some guys on our team that play golf more than Tony. ?

Garrett, said that he was pleased that Romo is so competitive and don't think that golf is bad for his football.

"We've never viewed it as a distraction," said Garrett. "It is always the first guy in the building." There late. He likes football and he enjoys his role as the quarterback of the Dallas Cowboys. He has shown us any reason to think that this is a distraction in any way he has done for us with the Cowboys. ?
