Lehman Tops Senior in the Tradition of the regions

Tom Lehman would have preferred a dramatic award-winning shot. Instead, he was held with what had worked all the weekend and waited for the other guy to miss.

Stable and patients, Lehman won the Tradition of regions for its third victory in seven Champions Tour events this year by beating Peter Senior with equal to the second hole of a playoff Sunday.

Senior, Australia, missed a putt from 5 feet by when she lip on no. 18. Lehman two row of about 20 feet, polishing off the coast of his second bogey day free first Champions Tour major of the season. They walked quickly to shake hands with the other without much reaction after relatively insignificant.

"I do putté well all week," said Lehman. "I have a few good rolls when I had to." I wasn't sure I was never going to make a putt to win. I did not just not something any length. It is regrettable to earn when someone is missing. I wish I would have made a birdie.

"That would have been more fitting.".

The two parred the first hole in the playoffs, also no. 18-shoal Creek.

Lehman and Senior end at 13-under 275. Lehman had a 3-under 69 and Senior shot a 68.

Senior missed a potential winning putt on the first hole of the playoff by a couple of inches to the right, and then had a still closer to the other side.

"It seemed that he would go to the left," he said of the first. "The last 3 feet it just right." I really thought with 3 feet to go that I definitely perforated it. He remained fairly directly the second playoff hole, coming the other way. ?

Lehman added: "it struck a superb putt." It seemed that he could not miss. It is a not break. ?

Lehman won his second Champions Tour major and fifth overall title on the circuit of 50 years and more. He has more than doubled up no. 2 Nick Price in the points ranking.

Lehman, has won the Senior PGA Championship last year, beat Fred Couples and David Frost, in a match after the Minnesotan parred and they all have two double bogeyed.

Loren Roberts (65) was third 11 slot after a closing birdie, and Michael Allen (69) was of 10 sous. Third round leader Mark Calcavecchia shot a 75 to fall in retainer for 5 to 9 below.

The 52-year-old Lehman, the British Open champion in 1996, had saved the after shot tee sailed into the Woods on the 17th hole to keep at least one share of the lead.

"It was terrible," he said. "I got lucky, that I hit a tree which has ceased to go deeper in the forest".

Lehman made good rolls on the road, including 18 for birdie on no. 15 footer and a foot of 15 difficult to record by no. 10.

"I think it was easily that the timing was key to the day that putt to economy by", he said.

Senior tied Lehman with a birdie on no. 17, perhaps with the help of a quick of wind.

"I had 238 yards to transport water, which is located right on my limit," he said. "But a breeze began to come while I was about to hit." I really need to do four. If wanted to win the tournament, I had to make four there. Good enough 3-wood just done by about 3 yards. ?

Taken 35 footer left of the hole and is edge went to a few feet more.

Calcavecchia held the lead for a large part in the last three days and he did not relinquish until double bogeying No. 12 for the second straight round.

He said "that pretty much started the two-day slide. "It is beyond disappointing." This is just not my day. ?
