Jason Giambi Hits 3 HRs, Rockies Beat Phillies 7-1.

With a powerful Coupe after the other, Jason Giambi looked like the old Giambino.

Giambi became the second oldest player to hit three homers in a game and tied his career with seven points products, leading the Rockies of Colorado past the Philadelphia Phillies 7 - 1 Thursday night.

"It is nice to contribute and get the opportunity to play," said Giambi, who began the first goal because Todd Helton had a stiff back. "It is exciting, something you dream.

Jhoulys Chacin was the recipient of the Giambi power turn-back-the-clock display. Chacin (5-2) allowed one run and four hits, striking out a season high nine in seven rounds.

Making a rare start, Giambi went deep in his first three at - bats. 40 Years former AL MVP entered 3 for 26 (. 115) this season with a home run and four RBI.

"Those who were dynamic swings, the type of swings, he is considered a regular player where any time that beats going before it is dangerous if the ball gets focus," Rockies Manager Jim Tracy said.

With two chances to match four homers major league record, in a match struck out Giambi research against Scott Mathieson in the sixth and went down swinging against J.C. Romero in the ninth.

Stan Musial is the oldest player to connect three times in a game. He was 41 when he did so against the New York Mets on July 8, 1962.

Giambi hit a three-run drive in the second deck in right field in the first inning off the coast of Kyle Kendrick (3-3). He lined a shot of two-run right Kendrick in the third. Giambi hits an another two-run shot to right Danys Baez in the fifth.

It was the third time in eight days as a big player hit three homers in a game. Carlos Beltran made for the Mets in New York last Thursday and slugger Toronto Jose Bautista accomplished the feat Sunday.

Giambi is the 12th player Rocky to homer three times in a game. Larry Walker was the last to do so on June 25, 2004, in Cleveland. Giambi has 419 homing career and 39 multihomer games.

Kendrick began instead of Joe Blanton, struck minutes before the match because of pain in his right elbow. He allowed five races and seven hits in three rounds.

"Giambi has made most of the strike." He does, "said Phillies Manager Charlie Manuel."

When Giambi connected in the first to give the Rockies a 3-0 lead, the game was almost over. The Phillies East NL-leading fell terribly in the attack. They have 10 runs and 28 hits in their last six games, ranging from 1 to 5.
