Auburn AD said statue of Newton is not a problem.

AUBURN, Alabama - Sports Director Auburn Jay Jacobs said that he has no reservations as to erect a statue of Cam Newton, while the NCAA investigation continues and trust that Auburn be eventually be cleared of any wrongdoing.

Jacobs points to the comments of the President of the NCAA Mark Emmert, who said "there is no evidence that the money had changed hands and no there was no evidence that Auburn University had something to do with it".

"Out of respect for the process of the NCAA, technically it's still an open question," Jacobs said. "But when Dr. Emmert, President of the NCAA, was released in February found no wrongdoing on part of the Auburn, I don't know how you can be more confident than that."

"And no cases have changed since then," he said.

If the saga of Newton was not officially closed, Jacobs takes at least this statement as indicating the existence of a happy ending.

NCAA knowing the winner of the Heisman Trophy and no. 1 NFL Draft to play for the Tigers of the Southeastern Conference and national - when championship games Auburn briefly declared ineligible - after finding the father of that Newton, Cecil, had solicited money from Mississippi State during the recruitment process.

The NCAA Stacey Osburn spokesman said Wednesday that the Emmert comments were only related to the decision of reinstatement. She said that a school is notified when an investigation is closed.

Jacobs spoke Associated Press Tuesday on a wide range of issues for a sports program which has won a Championship national football in January, while in dealing with the NCAA investigation.

He also said that auburn is "pretty close" to a new contract with football coach Gene Chizik Jacobs said will be in competition with other prominent SEC coaches like Nick Saban Alabama ($ 4.7 million) and the Miles LSU ($3.75 million).

Auburn is conditioned statues of its winners Heisman Bo Jackson, Pat Sullivan and Newton - who was drafted No. 1 by the Carolina Panthers - during the school year to come. The monument to Newton have raised questions waiting for closure by the NCAA in the case.

In General, they Don ' t say there is a question closed because they never know what tomorrow holds, "he says. "Any circumstances can change."

And other issues can surface.

Jacobs, said attorney William King Birmingham is "still at the research in" a report of March by HBO which included four former Auburn football players alleging that they received payments in cash during their college careers. Jacobs refused to comment when asked if King had been allowed to sit in with any of the players during the interviews of the NCAA.

Asked his decision on the report, he said: "my only thought was that we want to go to the bottom of it and discover the truth."

"It's me surprised." I think this is a surprise to everyone that he looked at, "he says.

The spotlight down on the Tigers, during and after the production of his first national title in football since 1957 illuminated not only victories. Jacobs rejects some of this success leading to some a "thorough review and questions."

"For the family Auburn, I believe that it has taken any joy in what is being done," he said.

Jacobs emphasizes the fact that he is not worried about any success which have reputation of Auburn outside the family unit with the Group dubbed the HBO four - Raven Gray, Stanley McClover, Chaz Ramsey and Troy Reddick and Newton.

"I believe that the only people who are concerned about these things are perhaps people who are not doing right," said Jacobs.

Beyond these issues, Auburn Auburn is set to reward Chizik for having led the Tigers to a season 14-0 and a victory over Oregon in the BCS Championship in only its second season game.

Chizik adds bonus $ 1.3 million year last to his salary of $ 2.1 million.

"We will certainly give it a nice increase," said Jacobs. "The way we build our contract is with a lot of encouragement, and we'll do as well as some." I talk specifically about numbers but we will put him where he can compete with the base salary. "But we do also probably more than anyone else, as we have with previous contracts, incentives".

Jacobs said that he raised the issue of a new contract with Chizik, not the reverse.

The coach is not an agent, but works in collaboration with the Attorney of Birmingham Russ Campbell on the transaction.

"When it comes to money and other things like that, it's really not a priority with Gene," says Jacobs. "He gave a part of his original salary to be able to have a better salary for assistant coaches, when we have hired." I know that we are about to something end fairly quickly. "But I wouldn't read anything into why he did not arrive sooner, except that it is really not a priority for him."

Jacobs also discussed several other issues, including:

Contract of basketball coach Tony Barbee. Barbee has not yet signed his contract for six years, since he was hired in March 2010 $ 9 million.

"Once the season started basketball, he said, 'Let's just put this on hold,'", said Jacobs. "" "". There was little in the contract that he wanted to watch us. We looked at those. There were about three or four things, we have eliminated three of them and made an adjustment on one. I think that some time in the near future we will have a contract on him. He is back with the lawyers now. He and I have agreed any principle. ?

Secondary NCAA violations. Jacobs said Auburn reported secondary and voluntary sanctions violations arising Tiger Prowls for football coaches - visits to secondary schools around the State in limousines or a bus in 2009 and 2010. The NCAA adopted a rule for a University to send only two coaches to a secondary school on the same day over a period of assessment.

"We see them as secondary violations and the SEC seen as secondary violations," said Jacobs, who refused to clarify sanctions itself until the NCAA announced its decision.

Expansion of Jordan-Hare Stadium. Jacobs said expansion of the stadium is currently "not on the Commission". Auburn ordered plans that include expanding future and other improvements - just in case.
